Annotated CFterm v1.41 screen — (1) choose the COM port and baud rate, then click OPEN; (2) set parity, data bits, stop bits and RTS/DTR; (3) pick a protocol under Mode (MODBUS RTU here), fill in the remaining fields and click SEND. The TX and RX panes and the Mode list are shown below.

Description of the MODE options

- Key Stroke : sends each character straight out as it is typed on the keyboard

- Detail : sends hexadecimal. For example, enter hex bytes separated by single spaces such as 03 fe 43 and press SEND to transmit.

- String : enter a string and press SEND to transmit.

- Decimal : sends decimal. For example, enter decimal values separated by single spaces such as 123 4 32 100 and press SEND to transmit. Each decimal value must be smaller than 256.

- MODBUS ASCII : transmits in Modbus ASCII format

- MODBUS RTU : transmits in Modbus RTU format

- File Transfer : select a file and press SEND to transmit its contents as they are. The file must be smaller than 1 KB.
